In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is located in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.

I invite all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the new, well-maintained and modern route that overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of shifting the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The new tunnel that connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join existing paths for bicycles and the ones that will be paved within the neighborhoods. It is intended to promote biking among its residents and promote the green movement in Jerusalem."

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the early 1990s in order to shift the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant in Sorek The Sorek Tunnel is located just west of the city. It is currently being used as an infrastructure tunnel that also houses the fifth water line that connects to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.
